What’s In a Name?

So, it turns out that choosing a word or phrase to forever represent how a person or entity is recognized and identified in the world is no small task. This responsibility of naming is somewhat rare in life, which further emphasizes its importance.

Renaming my business was daunting due to the sheer number of possibilities combined with the need to let go of an old identity. Renaming a business is a different experience when compared to naming a new business, especially after operating for 15 years under a very personal name. Regardless, the natural process of evolution will often lead to a point where the name and the identity are no longer congruent, making a realignment necessary.

Initially there was a flurry of thoughts and ideas, which I gradually focused into core concepts that somehow needed to be fully encompassed and symbolized within this new name.

It felt like coming home when I found my name last Spring (or my name found me), as though it had been patiently waiting for me to claim it. This past year has felt like trying to function from inside a box that I had long outgrown. Therefore, I am happy to finally shed this old skin and publicly share our new identity with all of you.

Some clients have asked about pronunciation, so to make it clear, Dyad is pronounced '“dye-ad”, like a triad for two.

This is not a typical word you hear thrown around in conversation, and in modern times the term is most often used in the fields of science and psychology.

Dyad originates from the Latin words dyas and duo, which literally means “two-ness”. Philosophically speaking, it is the step after monad which means single, oneness, unity, or complete. One is singular and self-contained. Two is required for impact, connection and duality - and this is where all the real action happens.

Definition of Dyad:

An enduring relationship between two interconnected elements with a sphere of mutual influence that creates a deep and profound impact.

Dyadic relationships impact each other whether they mean to or not. Each of us is surrounded by dyads at every level of life, and it is important to recognize and respect these connections in order to achieve more wholeness.

Our goal is to help clients experience more confidence, vitality and joy by supporting the many layers, cycles and systems responsible for the sum total of how we look and feel.

You cannot create real skin changes without also addressing the internal state of affairs. You cannot achieve real or lasting improvements without acknowledging the mental and emotional factors that deplete the body’s resources. You cannot address your appearance or mood without also addressing the harmful effects of our environment. You cannot increase your vitality without repairing the leaks in your energy field.

There is so much to explore, discover, and understand within these varied relationships, and most importantly within ourselves. We look forward to providing real solutions to real problems and partnering with clients to bring more meaning, value, and excitement in their lives.

It’s all about the Dyads baby.
